Things got a little crazy at City hall last night as councillor Theresa Stehly was gaveled down during an informational meeting at Sioux Falls city hall. Argus Leader’s Joe Sneve posted video of the event on Facebook:
To give you some background Councilor Stehly was concerned that an executive session that was scheduled to take place after the informational meeting was going to be focused on scolding her. The executive session’s purpose was described as being called to discuss “the qualifications, competence, performance, character or fitness of any public officer”. Councilor Stehly claims she is being bullied by the city attorney (Dave Pfeifle) and the leadership of the council.
Reading from a prepared statement she said:
“I have been bullied, intimidated and threatened. … I have been told not to talk to the media. I have been told not to advocate for the citizens,”
Council Chairman Rex Rolfing gaveled her down and the council voted 6-2 to go into executive session. Members of the public in the audience shouted for Councillor Rolfing to let her finish but he instead gaveled the audience and told security that if there were any further disruptions they public was to be removed. Councilor Stehly did not attend the executive session and instead stayed in the lobby and talked with the press about what happened.
