Crazy Anti-Immigrant Conspiracy Theory Talk in Aberdeen
Last week in Aberdeen On August 11, a group called “the Americans First Task Force of Aberdeen,” held a public event dealing with refugee resettlement. The speaker at the event was Ron Branstner from California. Ron Branstner has a history of giving conspiracy theory laced talks like this all over the country, and he found a gullible and receptive audience in Aberdeen, SD.
The blog SoDakLiberty has the full video of the event. Do yourself a favor and jump the last 30 minutes. That’s when the fireworks start. During, a very heated and confrontational Q&A, Branstner is confronted by a man named Cory Heidelberg who wrote an article that Branster used as ‘evidence’ in his conspiracy theory talk about how immigrants are coming to taking over your town. Needless to say, Heidelberg was not happy about how his words were used in the presentation to make the opposite point his original article was intended to make. At one point it almost appears that members of the audience are about to come to blows to silence Heidelberg as he voices his objections.
In the video, a woman who identified herself as “Namoi from the New American Task Force” asked Branstner for his sources for the numbers he quoted about immigration in the presentation. Branstner dismissed her and said all of his sources were “up there.” Despite the fact that I had been wondering the same thing as I could not see any footnotes or link sources. Branstner also does not have a website, so it is even harder to get your hands on any of his data to fact check it.
The video is pretty shocking, and you should see this mess for yourself.
