NCAA Grants Division I Hockey And Division II Wrestling To Sioux Falls

(Sioux Falls, SD) – Denny Sanford PREMIER Center is taking on a new challenge next year. Division I men’s hockey.

The governing body of major collegiate sports, NCAA, announced today that Sioux Falls and PREMIER Center, through a partnership with the University of North Dakota, will host a Division I men’s hockey regional March 23-25, 2018. The region would be hosted by the University of North Dakota, should they earn another birth to the tournament next year—not a long shot, considering the Fighting Hawks have qualified 15 consecutive years.

Chris Semrau, assistant general manager of Denny Sanford PREMIER Center says PREMIER Center staff will be ready to make the regional a rousing success.

“I had the pleasure of working alongside the University of North Dakota’s Department of Athletic for 14 years prior to relocating to Sioux Falls,” Semrau says. “I know firsthand how big of a deal the NCAA DI Men’s Ice Hockey West Regional is and we look forward to partnering with UND and the Sioux Falls Sports Authority in hosting this amazing event in an outstanding hockey facility, the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.”

Denny Sanford PREMIER Center will also host the NCAA Division II wrestling championships in 2020, an event that was held at PREMIER Center in 2016.
